Dangerous and drunk driving can kill, which is why it’s so important for people to avoid driving while intoxicated or distracted. Sadly, many people were hurt or killed over the Thanksgiving holiday.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, 247 people were hurt, and eight people were killed during crashes that happened throughout the 2019 holiday driving period from Nov. 27 to Dec. 1.
The police investigated 1,116 crashes, and 6.5% were reported to be related to alcohol. While the total number of crashes might not seem as high as you would expect, you should know that 14,028 speeding tickets were written. Another 1,366 tickets were written for people failing to wear their seat belts. Finally, 729 people were arrested for driving while intoxicated, a 14% increase from 2018.

A single collision, even at lower speeds, can result in many people getting hurt or killed. Even a single-vehicle crash could result in injuries or the deaths of several people.
