Reduced costs for employers: Workers' compensation rates drop

Workers' compensation is a safety net for workers. It gives them the peace of mind that they can do their jobs and be protected if they get hurt while working.

Businesses are meant to carry workers' compensation but may not if it's too expensive to purchase outright. They risk fines, and workers may not have the coverage they need, but some business owners take that risk.

When insurance premiums drop, businesses are more likely to have coverage for their employees. That's what happened in Pennsylvania. According to a report on April 3, the Pennsylvania insurance commissioner approved a 13 percent reduction in loss costs regarding workers' compensation. What that will do is reduce workers' compensation premiums for employers throughout the state.

What can workers expect from workers' compensation?

If you get hurt on the job, the last thing you'll want to deal with is the financial backlash. Workers' compensation is there to protect you from the medical bills that accrue. It guarantees you the right to medical care and will also cover a portion of your lost wages after a certain time has passed. Additionally, if you decide to try to return to work but need a different job or position, workers' compensation benefits often provide training for new jobs.

In the worst-case scenario where a worker loses their life, families can breathe easier thanks to death benefits. Overall, workers' compensation is a necessity, and reducing the costs will mean fewer businesses struggle to afford the insurance, and more businesses have it available for their employees at all times.
