What are some things to do after you get hurt?

On Behalf of | Jan 4, 2019 | Personal Injury |

A personal injury can be anything from a head injury to burns and scarring. As someone who has suffered an injury at the hands of another party, it’s important that you know what to do to help yourself the most.

While some people feel guilty asking others to pay for their treatments, it is wise to understand that in most cases, it is not the individual who will directly cover your losses. Instead, it’s normally their insurance provider that will pay for your medical care and lost wages. It is simply business to file a claim, not a personal affront.

What do you do after suffering an injury?

You should ask to go to the hospital immediately. If the other person doesn’t want to take you, then call 9-1-1 and have the ambulance pick you up. It is important to have a medical exam as soon as possible following your injury. In most cases, this will be the first documentation of your injury, which is important for your insurance claim.

Next, make sure you talk to your attorney about the incident. You or your attorney can reach out to the at-fault party and get the information you need to make a claim. If the police responded to the scene of an accident, get a copy of the accident report for your claim.

Keep all receipts and information about your expenses, medical diagnosis and other related documents. These are all things you should give copies of to your attorney. Then, your attorney can help you seek a fair settlement for your injuries.
